Job Training Programs
Portage County
The Valor Home Job Training program has put over thirty veterans back to work since 2009. The program provides job training in lawn care, snow removal, asbestos removal, and demolition.
The agency partners with the Department of Job and Family Services Employment One-Stop Program, and The Veterans Service Commission of Portage County, in order to indentify and to fill employment gaps for Portage County’s veterans.
Veterans work with peers and have supervisors who are also veterans. The program is designed to help the homeless veteran overcome obstacles to employment and consider long-term career planning goals.
In 2010 Family & Community Services, Inc. received a nomination for Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ohio’s Department of Development for establishing its job training program.
